National Day (Unification Day)

I hear there's snow in Transylvania. I imagine people go out in the afternoon, drinking glow wine, eating sausages with beans or sarmale and waiting for the fireworks. I don't particularly like military parades, though.

The Romanian President, when asked what he wanted for Romania for the following year, said he wished for a new ('competent', he said) Prime Minister. Cohabitation is seldom a pleasant thing, but, really, why can some people never relax? ['a fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject,' Sir Winston Churchill once said, according to an internet quotes site.]

In Bucharest it became a tradition to switch on the (electric) Christmas tree on December 1. This year, they say, it is a particularly large one. In the end, there was a huge mess: tens of thousands of people jamming the city center, mothers who lost their children in the crowd, everybody more annoyed by the jamming than charmed by the tree.
